The Cathar Castles

Cathar castles

In our area of Languedoc-Roussillon we have a lot of old Cathar Castles.

The castle of Arques :

It was built between the 13th century and the 14th century. It's located 50km far fromCarcassonne.

It's dominated by an elegant donjon of 25m height. It's a gothic style castle which combines luxury and military aspect.

The castle of Peyrepertuse :

It was built in1240. Perched at more than 800m,it extends on 300m long. This castle is located in the south of the Corbieres. It involves three enclosures which shelter more than one hectare of buildings.

The castle of Puilaurens :

This castle was built in 1229 on a rocky outcrop, it dominates the village of Lapradelle. The castle involves two separate architectural halves. The first enclosure hosts a donjon and the Tower of the White Lady.

The castle of Queribus :

In 1255 ,the castle of Queribus was built on a impressive rocky peak amounting to 730m of height. It's located close to Cucugnan. This castle is of ghotic style.

Limoux Carnival

LIMOUX CARNIVAL

It is the longest in the world. It last three months, (january, february, march).

Severel groups parade through the streets on saturday and sunday, (11a.m, 5 and 10p.m) for each tour the masked participants known as « The goudies » preceded by musiciens called « The Fecos » and dancers dressed up as Pierrot dance from one cafe to another under the mediaevel arcades of the republic square of Limoux. Armed raised, brandishing the « Carabela » and throwing confetti to the crowd. It concludes on the « Night of the Blanquette » which is the last day of the festival when this sparkling Limoux wine flows incessantly.

Women and sport

Women now are more present in international high level sport.

There are some women who play sport and are more or less famous.

1. Maria Sharapova

She is an international tennis player. She is 28 years old and she is Russian.

2. Lina Magull

She is an international football player. She is 21 years old and she is German.

3. Rochelle Clark

She is an international rugby player. She is 34 years old and she is English.

4. Laure Manaudou

She is an international swimmer. She is 29 years old and she is French.

Stereotypes on sports for boys or girls

These story boards were inspired by two films

' Billy Elliot' - Billy wants to do ballet dancing but his dad doesn't agree. He wants Billy to do boxing or weightlifting. He thinks Ballet dancing is for girls not for boys.

' Bend it like Beckham'- Jess wants to join a girls' football team and become a professional football player . Her parents don't want her to play football. They think she should behave like a proper woman.
